What it’s about

In 1906, Major Percy Fawcett (Hunnam) is sent by the Royal Geographical Society to the Amazon to chart the border between Bolivia and Brazil. Travelling up river with his aide-de-camp (Pattinson), he becomes convinced that a lost civilization exists deep in the rainforest. He returns several times over the years, leaving his wife (Miller) and three children at home in England. Will he find what he’s looking for, and return to tell the tale?

Why we love it

Based on David Grann’s 2009 bestseller, Gray imagines this true story as a thrilling adventure epic while illuminating early 20th century racism and class distinctions. In an age when explorers were revered celebrities, Hunnam brings a square-jawed daring to his performance while hinting at personal demons. Shot on 35mm in the jungles of Colombia, Gray’s sweat-soaked canvas poses the age-old question: at what cost does man forge new frontiers?
