What it’s about
Everyone’s favorite talking toys are back for one last adventure! With their owner Andy (Morris) all grown-up and heading off to college very soon, Woody (Hanks), Buzz (Allen) and the rest of the gang are faced with uncertain futures. A packing mishap sends them off to a daycare facility where life seems idyllic, until they discover their new home is ruled by an evil bear with an iron fist. The resourceful toys plot a daring escape, but even if their plan succeeds, will they even have a home to return to?
Why we love it
Pixar's patented blend of screwball hijinks and nostalgia-soaked sentiment is once again on full display here, and those familiar voices — Hanks, Allen, Cusack, etc. — all return to breathe life into their beloved characters for (presumably) one last time. Judging by how invested we are in their collective fate, these animated figures seem more real, and their adventures more involving, than a host of live-action features. Nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars, and handily nabbing the statuette for Best Animated Feature, “Toy Story 3” shapes up as a fitting final chapter to a wildly successful series. A must-see for kids, and the young at heart.
