Why we love it
This invaluable film not only tells you plenty you might not have known about Toni Morrison’s fascinating life and career, it lets you visit with the lady herself. And what a lady. Commentary from her editor Robert Gottlieb and superfan Oprah (among others) attests to all she achieved, while raising two sons on her own. Still, what elevates this doc is the sheer charisma of Morrison herself: her warmth, vitality and humor jump right off the screen. “Pieces” makes you grateful to have spent some time in her company.
