What It’s About:

Anne (Drucker) and Pierre (Rabourdin) are a married couple raising two young adopted daughters in a bright suburban home. Theo (Kircher), Pierre’s seventeen-year-old son from a prior marriage, is in perpetual trouble living with his mother and is finally sent to Pierre to get straightened out. Father and son have plenty of baggage, but Anne finds herself intrigued by her cute, lean, tousle-haired stepson. They form a connection that quickly turns physical. Will they manage to keep their liaison a secret, or will this once happy family be destroyed?

Why We Love It:

Only the French could pull off a premise like this with such subtlety and finesse, making the stuff of cheesy melodrama feel relatable and real. Drucker is sensational as a seemingly content, settled woman who’s found everything she wants, but betrays small signs of restlessness living with Pierre, who incidentally appears at least a decade older than she. So we get her attraction to Theo, who represents youth, but also excitement and danger. Suspense builds as Anne realizes she may not be able to control her immature lover. What if Theo spills the beans? It’s great fun finding out just what happened “Last Summer”.
