What It’s About
For reasons unknown, fashion model Kelly-Anne (Gariepy) slavishly attends the ghoulish trial of serial killer Ludovic Chevalier (McCabe-Lokos) in Montreal each day. There she meets Ludovic groupie Clementine (Babin), who believes he’s innocent, and they form an unlikely bond. But Kelly-Anne turns out to be much more than a spectator, as she accesses vital case evidence via the dark web and starts surveilling the mother of one of the victims. Soon her behavior becomes nearly as bizarre and disturbing as Ludovic’s.
Why We Love It
Plante’s sleek, unnerving thriller touches on themes of voyeurism and emotional isolation in portraying one woman’s obsession with a twisted psychopath who filmed his unspeakable acts, creating “snuff videos”. Kelly-Anne is a remote, beautiful enigma, and Gariepy makes us curious about what’s going on behind those dark, impenetrable eyes. Babin is equally fine as the awkward Clementine, who’s ultimately put off by her newfound friend’s disturbing preoccupation. Enter these “Rooms” at your own risk!
